Chiropractic Care

Here at True North Chiropractic Center, we specialize in assisting our patients through chiropractic care.

Chiropractic care is a natural form of health care that assists with disorders of musculoskeletal system, the nervous system, and the effects of such disorders on general health. Most chiropractic services are used to heal back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. There are also many other benefits of chiropractic care.

One of the most common practices that chiropractors are known for is adjusting patients. This rarely causes discomfort but rather causes relief. When most people are in pain, they grab medication; yet, chiropractic care is a much safer and more effective option.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Here at True North Chiropractic Center, we specialize in chiropractic adjustments.

A chiropractic adjustment can make you feel so much better. Your body does not want to be out of alignment, and that’s exactly what an adjustment can help address. It is also known as chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation. The adjustment refers to the manipulation of the vertebrae that have abnormal movements and are not functioning properly. A chiropractic adjustment will assist in fixing these issues.

The goal of chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, increase the range of motion, reduce nerve irritability, and improve mobility. Our compassionate and qualified chiropractor will work with you to relieve this pain and get you back to being pain free every single day.

A chiropractic adjustment involves high velocity thrusts applied to the vertebra, relieving sensation, discomfort, and spasms in the surrounding muscles. It also releases joint cavitation, which is caused by the release of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide.

Although many people visit their chiropractor and have an adjustment when something feels out of alignment, a regular visit will help you avoid any pain in the future and will keep your body feeling great all day long.

If you are having one of those days when you are not in the best mood, an adjustment may actually help. Your body will feel much better, which will naturally improve your mood.

Chiropractic Adjusting Techniques

Gonstead:

The focus of the Gonstead adjustment is to be as specific, precise and accurate as possible, addressing only the problem areas (areas of subluxation). Great care is taken to ensure a bio-mechanically correct position and precise thrust to provide the most accurate and painless adjustment possible. It is the goal of your Gonstead doctor to restore and maintain optimal health by locating and correcting any interference to the nervous system caused by vertebral subluxation.

Zenith Drop:

The Thompson Drop Technique uses a drop table to enhance the motion of an area to be adjusted. The chiropractor applies a quick thrust at the same time the section drops. It allows the Doctor to safely, specifically, and comfortably adjust the joints of the body. The dropping of the table allows for a lighter adjustment without the twisting positions that can accompany other.

Activator (Proficiency Rated):

Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique is a gentle, low-force approach to chiropractic care that uses a small handheld spring-loaded instrument to delivers a small impulse to the joint in question. The technique had been used safely on patients of all ages since the late 1960’s, bringing relief to people with a variety of health concerns. Because of its effectiveness and gentle nature, the Activator method has grown to become the world’s most widely-used instrument chiropractic technique.

If you’re suffering from an auto accident, you might be surprised to learn that chiropractic care can provide a drug-free way to relieve your pain. For instance, if you have back pain or neck pain after being involved in a car accident, this could mean you have a spinal or whiplash injury. If you do not receive proper care, these types of injuries can have a serious, negative impact on your health. They can lead to months, or possibly even years, of chronic pain.

If you’re suffering from an auto accident injury–regardless of whether it was a “fender bender” or a major crash–don’t wait to deal with your pain. Prompt chiropractic care will help support your body’s natural healing process and help you avoid a lifetime of chronic pain or other health problems.

We have a state-of-the-art digital x-ray suite with the one of the most modern imaging systems available today. The x-rays taken here allow Dr. Weiss to accurately visualize the condition of the spine and guide him in determining the most effective course of treatment for his patients.

By the time we are in our mid to late twenties, most of us have experienced mild to severe back pain. From sitting on the cold bleachers, long snowmobile rides, or just wear and tear, our backs get the short end of the stick.

But there’s hope. And what’s better; it doesn’t come in the form of a pill or going under the knife.

While certain back conditions may require surgery, nonsurgical spinal decompression is giving people a glimpse of what life could be like without back pain.

And what’s more, it does so without all of those medical costs.

Without the invasive aspects of surgery. And without drugging you up.

Is spinal decompression right for you? Find out all you need to know about this form of chiropractic care.

Here at True North Chiropractic Center, we specialize in corrective exercises to assist you with any pain that you may be experiencing.

Corrective exercises can help make any pain that you are experiencing go away and stay away. These exercises will strengthen and correct the irregularities of your body which may be causing your pain. Most of these exercises are able to be performed in the comfort of your own home. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles or connective tissues that are out of place can also cause pain.

There are also other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches. These pains are caused by muscles and tissues that are not properly aligned. Overtime, this can cause injury. Feeling aligned will help your body achieve balance and true health.

It is important to do each rehabilitation exercise regularly. Strengthening weak areas and regaining lost strength will have you well on your way to feeling better.

These exercises typically combine stretching, aerobic conditioning, and strengthening exercises. These plans are all customized for your mobility level and pain level. Being able to implement and execute the exercises properly is very important to your entire healing process.

When pregnant it can be helpful to stretch in addition to having your pelvis balanced by a chiropractor. This will create a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery. A good rule of thumb is to stretch to the point of discomfort and then back off 15-20%. Hold stretches about 20-30 seconds and more if needed.

These are brief descriptions, for more in-depth instructions on these exercises please call or email our office.

  • Abdominal Exercise: Naval to the Spine. When you are in neutral posture on all fours, pull in stomach (naval to the spine) as best as possible to activate the transverse abdominis muscle. Hold 5-10 seconds and repeat as many times during the day as possible. You can also do this seated or standing. This is perhaps the best abdominal exercise while you are pregnant and postpartum.
  • Pubic Joint Stretches: Put a spacer in between your thighs (or simply use your fists stacked one on the other) and press in for 5 seconds. Then press out against the resistance of your hands for 5 seconds. Repeat 5 times. This helps to balance the inner thigh muscles that attach to the pelvis and relieves pubic joint pain.

  • Psoas Stretch On Block: Put the top edge of the yoga block at the top of your sacrum (bone between your hip bones) just below the base of your spine. Lay down on the ground with it in that position. Bend one knee in and straighten the other leg out. On the side of the straightened leg pull the arm up straight alongside your head. Lay here for 5 mins if possible. You can use something else (A stack of paperback books) if you don’t have a yoga block. Switch sides.

  • Extended Child's Pose: Widen your legs to fit your belly between and extend forward. Can rest here as long as comfortable, or at least 20 seconds.

  • Windshield Wipers: This is a great one for the psoas muscle and the thigh muscles. Lay on back with feet resting under bent knees. Rock knees right to the floor as you keep your feet flexed. Hold 20-30 second

  • "Threading The Needle" Supine: Pull knee into tummy and ideally clasp hands behind thigh. If this is too much, just hold thigh up. For more stretch push elevated knee away from your head.

  • "Threading The Needle" Seated: This is a good stretch for opening the outer muscles attaching to the sacrum (especially the piriformis muscle). Pull knee into tummy and ideally clasp hands behind thigh. If this is too much, just hold the thigh up. For more of a stretch push elevated knee away from your head.

  • Cat/Cow: With your knees directly under your hips and your hands under your shoulders. Knees hip width apart. On an inhale: Curl the toes under. Drop the belly. Take the gaze up toward the ceiling. Let the movement in the spine start from the tailbone, so that that neck is the last part to move. As you exhale raise the belly as you drop your head down. Repeat this series 10 times.
  • Knee On Stool: Place one knee on middle of a stool, chair, etc. While holding onto something for balance, step forward into a lunge and drop your pelvis down towards the floor. Straighten your hips (the side of the pelvis where the leg is on the stool will want to travel up, really root that hip into the floor and pull it forward).

  • Lunge In 3 Positions: Bend the right knee so that it is directly over the right ankle with the right thigh parallel to the floor. Take particular care that your knee does not get ahead of your ankle, since this places the knee in a vulnerable position. Line your fingertips up with your toes. Come onto the fingertips to avoid placing too much weight in your hands. Roll your shoulder blades down your back, lengthen your spine, and bring your gaze straight in front of you. Extend from your back heel to the top of your head.
  • Pigeon And Forward Bending Pigeon: Bend the right leg and bring the right knee to the floor outside the right hand (like into a Figure 4 position) while extending the front of the left leg to the floor. The right shin may angle back towards the left hip or be more parallel to the front of your mat, depending on your flexibility. Square the hips towards the front of your mat. Forward Bending Pigeon: Bring the torso down into a forward bend over the right leg.
  • Sit On Ball: Find a ball and set it on the floor. Place the ball on the floor under you. Locate your tailbone with the ball and move directly to one side or the other. Don’t place your tailbone on the ball, sit off to one side or the other. Find a tender place and sit there for 5 mins. Move up your sacrum (remember it is an upside-down triangle) all the way up to your low back. The longer you can sit on each tender spot the better.

  • Side-Lying On Wedge: This is just a comfy way to lay if your belly is hurting. There are special pillows, or make one out of foam or a blanket, etc.
  • Happy Baby: Lay on your back and pull your knees down to either side of your trunk as you hold your feet. Try to get your knees as close to the floor as possible.

  • Forward Bending Lunge: In the lunge position, bend forward.

The benefits that can be provided by a chiropractor are immense. At True North Chiropractic, we know that the best way to ensure your child develops their full potential is to ensure the proper function of their nervous system. It’s common knowledge that kids are generally durable, but a lot of parents do not know about the long-term ramifications that misalignments in the spine can have on their children. Regrettably, kids have trouble expressing the type of pain they feel or simply ignore when their body is experiencing significant discomfort. Children are not invincible, even the smallest misalignment can eventually develop into a more severe condition.

Children’s bodies are perpetually growing and as such deal with significant stress. A misalignment can start as early as in the womb. When a child is being born, they have likely already been curled up and then pushed or pulled out of the womb with significant force. It is easy to imagine how this much force on such a tiny frame can lead to structural imbalances. Any type of interference in the spine result in babies having difficulties with the nervous system. The nervous system is essential to maintaining proper health.

Chiropractic care can be incredibly beneficial for your child’s health. After birth, the physiological stress progresses as babies develop into toddlers. They’re confronted with the hurdle of walking and running. While kids are learning how to conquer these hurdles, they involve a fair share of trial and error that can leave them exhausted physically.

As toddlers develop into children, they frequently start to exhibit poor posture, playing physically rigorous games, carrying heavier books, and also deal with more responsibilities. In the blink of an eye, children become adolescents and graduate secondary school, not long after they usually get part-time jobs that require heavy labor as they transition into college.

The chiropractic team at True North Chiropractic knows that taking bumps and bruises as children grow is simply part of the process of growing up. We truly enjoy providing pediatric care for all children. We want to help safeguard your child from sickness and pain as much as possible as they grow and develop into young adults. Chiropractic care is not about keeping your children in a bubble, it’s about making sure your child’s body is built to endure whatever life throws at it. Our examinations are thorough and are suitable for children of all ages. Our staff is committed to providing your child only the chiropractic care that is needed and will talk over their treatment plan with you every step of the way.
